Mending Hearts

A battle in the lives,
of those we see today.
Yet they hide it well,
and go on their merry way.

Some may seem so bitter,
the hurt so deep within.
They don’t know how to make it stop,
except to pull you in.

Sometimes hard to help,
it’s easier to run.
Our own lives are so busy,
we avoid the smoking gun.

Some people deeply hurting,
need a listening ear.
At first may seem defensive,
but soon we see the tears.

Empathetic to the cause,
it all starts with just one,
Something found in common,
to help them carry on.

The heart begins to mend,
crumbling walls come down.
As they pay it forward,
another lost soul found.
